Industrial Air Compressor Piston Assemblies

Depending on the compressor the pistons can be made from solid bar stock or from a casting as a one piece or as a two half construction. Most of the two piece piston assemblies are made from cored castings to help with the strength and integrity of the assembly as well as the weight. Multiple stage compressors will use different materials in each of the cylinders to help with maintaining the balance of the compressor. Pistons will ride in the cylinders of lubricated machines with the use cast iron piston rings while the oil-free non-lubricated pistons use Teflon piston and rider rings.
