The frame was constructed from highly durable cast iron. After the bare frame was machined housings, crosshead guides and covers were accurately machined to fit the critical tolerances needed for proper running clearances needed during operation. Worthington made several different frame styles such as horizontal, vertical, and “Y” shape. Regardless of the shape Worthington always designed their frames to allow for easy access to the running gear for required maintenance.
